Mr and Mrs Dobson Martin

Welcome to our first Blog of 2015. The topic is the Humanist Ceremony of Tara and Carl Dobson Martin which took place here at the Mill Forge on 3rd October 2014. Thank you to the lovely couple for sharing their day with us.
When and where did you first meet?
We both live in Kielder and worked in the local pub.
Where did you go on your first date?
We went for a meal and went to the movies to watch the Golden Compass!
How did Carl propose?
We were on holiday in Devon, walking down a high street. As we walked past a jewellers, Carl said I think it's about time I got you a ring so we both picked the ring!
How did you first hear about the Mill Forge? Tara came to one of the wedding fayres at the Mill and fell in love with the place.
How did you book?
We both visited the venue and met with one of the wedding coordinators. The service we received was exceptional and every question we had was answered and they made us feel at ease. After a few weeks we picked a date and filled in the forms and sent them off - it was easy!
How many wedding dresses did you try on before buying your dress?
Tara went to Border Brides in Hawick and tried on loads of dresses. They were really helpful and were able to pick out dresses that suited her and able to offer advice on different styles.
How many guests did you bring to your wedding?
We had 30 guests in total including 10 children. We wanted a small and intimate wedding. We had 3 flower girls one of which did a reading for us, 3 bridesmaids and 2 bestmen.
Who conducted your Wedding Ceremony?
Jan Dunkley - Humanist Society Scotland
What other services did you book?
We didn't use any of the services recommended by the Mill due to our wedding being different from traditional weddings. However we had the flowers made by Made By Dee, the cake by Nicola Batey, hair and make up done by Bliss Hair and Beauty and photos by Ken Phillips.
Any surprises on the day?
Tara's sister lives and works in Hong Kong and hasn't been back to the UK for over a year. We arranged for 4 of her best friends to surprise her and attended the evening do. It was a brilliant surprise for her and she didn't suspect a thing.
What was the weather like?
It was terrible, it rained all day and we were really disappointed we couldn't get pictures in the gardens. However the photographer was excellent and we have great pictures of inside the Forge. The wedding coordinator was a great help who had a massive supply of umbrellas.
Most romantic or memorable moment of your day?
Carl's was when Tara walked down the aisle as he said she looked stunning. The most romantic moment was the service which they both had written themselves.
Did you have any special songs/music on the day?
Tara walked down the aisle to Iris by Goo Goo Dolls and we walked up the aisle to Galway Girl by Steve Earle.
Did you have a honeymoon?
We went to Yorkshire for 4 days after the wedding to a stunning cottage called Swallow Cottage. The owner had a bottle of champagne, chocolates and a plaque with the date written on it for us when we arrived. We are planning to go to Ireland next year for our main honeymoon.
In one sentence, please sum up your wedding day here at the Mill Forge.
